The present Dsa Engineers (Bombay) has its genesis when the Late Mr. Mahendra Singh, MI (Struct) E, London, was designing the Railway tracks from Bombay to Pune (in the hilly terrain), as he felt the need to contribute something more to the world. To this end he promoted Mahendra Singh & Sons a proprietory concern to promote Public Health Engineering (PHE) as a specialised field.

Upto late 1920's, Public Health was of no concern.  Human waste was being disposed off in a very unplanned manner. Early 1930's saw the awakening of an era where the European countries started planning & devising methods and means of treating & disposing human waste.
